Turning Problems into Possibilities through Emotional Intelligence
PMs work in an environment of rapidly changing social networks with limited power and authority, and yet they are responsible for mustering resources, meeting and managing diverse stakeholder needs and expectations, and analyzing complex issues and delivering top quality within short time periods. Making the right decisions, satisfying conflicting demands, and getting buy-in for the best of the project is no easy matter. To do so we must be able to use our full potential.
Until recently, most businesses limited their understanding of full potential to factual knowledge and relevant experience, yet recent scientific evidence shows that our brains are hard wired to integrate emotional significance into cognitive decisions, and in fact that we make far better decisions and are more effective when we make optimal use of what both our heads and our „hearts“ tell us. This ability to integrate fact and feeling has been given the name Emotional Intelligence, and we now know the most successful people in life as well as in business are those who have superior Emotional Intelligence.
The good news is that Emotional Intelligence is learnable. Anyone can become more adept at working effectively with others, harnessing the enormous power of their own emotional energy, managing conflict and crises more effectively, making better decisions, and creating a positive work environment to foster top performance in others. It is not a matter of learning a few soft skills techniques, but rather becoming aware of our own feelings as well as those of others. The key is in a straightforward four step process to access our EI and thus build powerful and effective relationships.
This evening’s presentation will look at what emotional intelligence is and more importantly 4 concrete steps you can take to start enhancing your EI immediately.
