6:30pmHow to manage 'rescue projects'
Coral Trisko, PMP
This event will feature the keynote speaker Ms. Coral Trisko, PMP, a Contract Project Manager from Vancouver, Canada, and founder and former President of the PMI British Columbia (Canada) Chapter.

Coral Trisko's experience includes project management training, and the development and implementation of project management for large international organizations as well as government. As a member of the Academic Teaching Faculty of the Royal Roads University, Canada she develops programs and teaches project management within the MBA program.

Altogether Coral has more than 20 years of experience as instructor, consultant, coach, and project manager in several Canadian and international organizations, such as ABB Sweden, Cincinnati Bell, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Schindler Elevators, Sprint Canada, Syngenta Crop Protection Switzerland, Microsoft, JP Morgan/Chase Manhattan.

Coral will talk about a project situation which all too many project managers know from own experience: troubled and ailing projects. She will explain why projects get in trouble, what to do first to assess and stabilize the situation and then how to get the project back on the path to success. We are certain that this will be information which many project managers can apply to help their own projects.

Coral speaks from own experience: one of her recent projects involved a major financial institution and the world's largest software company, which project resources exceeding 1 billion US dollars. She was asked to lead the project when it became obvious that only external competence could still make the project a success. She relocated from Vancouver to New Your City and led the project for one year, finishing it successfully.

Feedback

By Phil Emmenegger

A good turnout of PMI members as well as guests enjoyed refreshments and chatted with old and new acquaintances before the arrival of the PMI Chapter President, Dr. Andrea Behrends and the guest speaker, Coral Trisko, PMP. The evening started out with board members bringing everyone up to date with Chapter news, especially that of the change of the executive board positions and elections which are coming up soon.

Ms. Trisko started out her talk on "How to rescue Ailing and Troubled Projects" with a quick introduction of herself and the different projects she has tackled. Her enthusiastic nature along with her extensive experience she has gathered throughout her career made for a riveted and informative evening. Ms. Trisko covered 3 main topics of why projects fail, what to do first and key steps to success. Some good questions were asked by the audience which added an excellent dynamic to the presentation.

The evening rounded out with a wonderful three course dinner at the hotels main dining hall and with a raffle with some prizes picked out by lucky winners. The prizes included an inflatable rowboat, a laser pointer pen and assorted bottles of wine.
